He said that last year 336 thousand tons of minerals were extracted from the active mines of this city, which increased by 26% compared to the same period of the previous year, he continued: 12 types of minerals are extracted in this city, which are the most important and most precious stones. Extracted includes limestone carcass with 138 thousand tons, iron ore with 61 thousand 600 tons and silica rock with 58 thousand 500 tons, respectively.

Jahin added: "By creating processing factories for this valuable ore, in addition to generating foreign exchange, it will also create jobs for the youth of this region, and there are 19 barite mines in Mahabad city that provide 50% of the country's barite."

Mahabad provides 50% of the country's barite

The head of the Department of Industry, Mines and Trade of Mahabad city considered one of the main poles of extraction of "barite" stone in the country and stated: Last year, 36,700 tons of barite ore, which is an effective material in the extraction of oil industry, was extracted from the mines of this city. Was processed.

He continued by stating that the added value of each ton of processed barite at the stage of sale compared to raw barite is 30 to 50% different from the sale of raw: barite stone in cooling and lubrication of drilling rigs, inner coating of oil wells, transfer of materials In-ground drilling and control of abnormal pressures inside oil and gas wells are used.

The head of the Mahabad County Department of Industry, Mines and Trade stated: Some of the city's mineral products, including decorative stones, travertine, marble and granite, are also exported to neighboring countries such as Turkey, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

36,700 tons of barite has been extracted from Mahabad mines

Jahin Mahabad is one of the most important centers for extracting barite ore, an effective material in extracting oil industry products in the country. He said: The number of active mines in Mahabad city is 33, and so far 36,700 tons of barite ore have been extracted and processed from the mines of this city.

The head of Mahabad Department of Industry, Mines and Trade, referring to the 45% share of this city in the country's barite extraction, said: more than 90,000 tons of this mineral is extracted in this city annually.

He said that out of 17 mines out of 33 active mines in the city have barite, he said: 10 types of minerals are extracted from Mahabad mines that travertine and marble are in the second and third ranks after barite.

There are 17 active barite mines in Mahabad

Jahin added that barite powder is sometimes added to a solution of water and clay, and is widely used because of the useful properties of this mixture, such as its weight, chemical neutrality, and relatively cheap price: Due to the special mass and weight and neutrality of the chemical structure of barite, about 90% of this mineral is used in oil and gas drilling.

At present, the annual production of barite in the country is about 150 tons, but in the meantime, the exploitation of mines, which are a serious competitor to the oil industry, requires more support and investment.

There are 51 types of 68 types of minerals identified in the country in West Azerbaijan, currently 504 mines are active in the province and 5,273 people are working directly in the mines of this province.
