Head of the Industry, Mining and Trade Organization of West Azerbaijan: 120 mines in this province are stagnant and inactive due to lack of necessary infrastructure.

According to the International Iranian Stone Exhibition, Gholamreza Babaei, while visiting the mining units of Salmas city, stated: "According to this statistic, about 27% of the mines in this province out of a total of 450 mines have inactive licenses."

He continued: "According to the slogan of the year, we intend to return them to the production cycle by solving administrative problems for this number of stagnant mining units."

The head of the Industry, Mining and Trade Organization of West Azerbaijan said: "Development and activation of mines paves the way for the development and solution of infrastructure problems in the cities, and in this regard, barriers to the use of mining development capacity should be removed with the cooperation of executive bodies."

Babaei stated: The definite reserves of the mines of West Azerbaijan are more than one billion and 214 million tons and annually more than 17 million tons of various minerals are extracted in the province and a large part of it is exported raw from the province.

He emphasized: Salmas city is also one of the rich and important cities of the province in terms of mineral production, which is hoped to increase the level of exploitation of resources by constantly monitoring mineral and natural resources.

The mining sector and downstream industries are the axis of development of West Azerbaijan, but the stone mines of this province face many problems such as selling raw materials and lack of market.

It is necessary to provide facilities with low bank interest rates for working capital, as well as the modernization of mining machinery to improve the performance of the province's mines.

West Azerbaijan is in a good position in terms of mineral reserves, but still has a long way to go before it can make good use of the capacities of the mining sector and the mining industry.

The area of West Azerbaijan is covered by three of the twenty zones of systematic exploration of the country, including "Oshnoyeh-Khoy", "Marivan-Mahabad" and "Shahin Dej-Mahneshan".
